About Us
Every Soul Arts is a Detroit-based collective of artists, care providers, housing experts, and people with lived experience of homelessness united in the belief that every person should have access to safe and affordable housing and opportunities to explore and celebrate their creativity. Using mediums such as live performance, film, creative writing, and visual arts, Every Soul Arts aims to bring attention to an often invisible crisis and imagine a world without youth homelessness.
Every Soul Arts was born after the success of Sofa Stories, an ongoing performance project that uses live theatre and digital media to amplify the voices of young people impacted by homelessness and housing insecurity, particularly those who have experienced couch-surfing as a means of survival. Conceived in Detroit in 2019 by award-winning playwright and theatre-maker Andrew Morton, Sofa Stories includes original monologues created in collaboration with youth, artists, care providers, and housing experts, inviting audiences to bear witness to personal stories that often remain unseen and unheard.
